Texas Tech Names Lawyer Legislator Brandon Creighton Sole Finalist for Chancellor

Continuing a trend in Texas and Florida, another state legislator has been named to lead a University – this time attorney Senator Brandon Creighton has been named the sole finalist for the Chancellor of Texas Tech.
As a legislator. Creighton was responsible for Senate Bill 17 in 2023 which banned diversity, equity and inclusion offices at public universities. He also co-authored Senate Bill 18 in 2023 making it easier for universities to revoke tenure. In 2025, he authored Senate Bill 37, requiring university system regents to review their schools’ curriculum periodically and directs them to consolidate or eliminate low enrollment programs. He also helped enact Senate Bill 2972, giving regents more power to restrict protests and other expressive activity on campus.
He earned his JD from the Oklahoma City University School of Law
