On Thursday, September 4, 2025, Northwestern University President Michael Schill announced he was stepping down after three years. He gave an interview with the Chronicle this week, discussing the challenges faced as he assumed the presidency during the encampments/protests.  His resignation came just after he met with  House Committee on Education and Workforce on August 5, 2025 where he was criticized for his handling of the campus protests and failure to protect Jewish students. After a sabbatical he plans to join the Law Faculty at the Pritzker School of Law.

Prior to his Presidency at Northwestern, Schill was the President of the University of Oregon and the Dean of the University of Chicago Law School.
